Good list indeed! But definitely thought of visiting most of them (visited 10 out of 15!) ;). Trakai looks like a very interesting destination - never heard of to be honest!

Really good article for people who think they may have lost their roots by living elsewhere in the world for a long time. "home" is more than your friends, family and history in your home country!

Just want to congratulate TravelFish, and say it's my all-time favourite guidebook. It's helped me find the most amazing guesthouses in places where I haven't seen a tourist for weeks. Thank you Stuart & team, keep up the great work!

Well said! I've been trying to explain this to DMOs for years - I hope they also watched this video! Bart

While it's very well written, I disagree with the message of the article. Yes, you need money to travel, but too many people worry about money too much and keep postponing traveling forever. I honestly think that most people with a bit of persistence and entrepreneurial spirit could drop everything, and travel the world without ending up homeless or getting deported. I can't help but feeling the writer is just a bit jealous of the privileges her internet acquaintance has...

Promoting certain not-touristy neighborhoods like NYC is doing is a great idea. I think we and other niche travel guide publishers are helping them with this!

But to be honest I think it will only have little effect. People want to see the highlights (although I'm happy to see this attitude is changing). The only way to really control visitor volume is by limiting visitors with time-slots, and revenue management (pricing more for popular times).

In his well known TedX talk Doug Lansky explains these ideas nicely.

Such a cool city - I was there a few months ago. So surprised not more people visit this amazing metropolis!
