I met someone who worked for the RSPCA (back in the UK) in Thailand recently and he (gleefully) showed me a video he's taken of one of those elephant shows. Shocking - shows that even supposedly clued-up people just don't stop to think. Great post.
Thanks! I so agree - little savings on things like flights and non-essentials means more money to spend on travelling/amazing experiences. Win win!
Stunning photography - I love the sheep one in particular. What a gorgeous country.
Love this post, thought-provoking photography - and I'm sure you've heard this before but I really like the layout of this site!
I travel solo a lot, and I do understand why people get concerned and ask these questions; if you haven't travelled extensively, then it's a natural reaction to feel apprehensive. But I think people tend to mistake a more comprehensive access to news with the world getting more dangerous - it's not, it's just that we hear these "horror stories" more frequently now. I think you're as likely to run into trouble (probably more so) in London that KL.
Absolutely wonderful photography! Wow.
Couldn't agree more Sonja - fantastic photography!
I very much agree Sonja - this is a photo essay that gives us a peek at Afghanistan beyond the news headlines. Excellent photography.
It's hardly a question that needs to be asked, surely? (though am glad that this article has been shared!) - overwhelmingly YES. It's really odd that Zwarte Piet isn't more widely known outside of the Netherlands - a few friends of mine moved to the Hague a five or so years ago, and are still surprised by the normalisation of this tradition by the Dutch. Makes me very uncomfortable.
Informed, beautiful post - really what more could you want?
Brilliant post. I visited Cambodia a couple of months ago, and have such mixed feelings about it; when I slowed down the pace, took time out at a yoga retreat, it was wonderful. But I hated Phnom Penh, and Siem Reap was... just a bit strange. I have such a love/hate relationship with Cambodia!
