We’re The Last Ones: Life in Louisiana’s Atchafalaya Swamps

The swamp is dark and thick and swarming with birds ruffling in the moss-covered cypress trees. Insects are drawn by the light of my storm lantern, moths and mosquitoes buzzing on the back wall.I put a pot full of rice on my propane stove and make sure it is cooking evenly as I lay the squirrel on the cutting board.
