UK industry invitation: Learn about the ambitious new Transcaucasian Trail on Weds 1st Feb @ RGS in London

(Note to Outbounding members: if you'd also like to attend the pre-lecture drinks & networking session, please email me on [email protected] after you've RSVPed.)

In 2016, led by pioneering British traveller Tom Allen, an international team spent seven months exploring and mapping routes for the Transcaucasian Trail (TCT). When complete, the TCT will become the first long-distance hiking route the length of the Caucasus Mountains.

As the recipients of the 2016 RGS-IBG Land Rover Bursary, the Transcaucasian Expedition team used a specially adapted Land Rover Defender 110 Station Wagon, equipped with the latest GIS technology, to access the most remote parts of the Caucasus. Living and working from their mobile basecamp, they gathered data about the largely-uncharted network of dirt roads and village trails in this culturally unique and ecologically diverse corner of the world, sharing their story in real time and building the foundations for the future of this brand new trekking route.

In this free public lecture, expedition leader Tom Allen will tell the story of the journey and its achievements, explore the origins and vision of the TCT, and offer a glimpse of the future of this ambitious project, as the Caucasus Mountains begin to open up for hikers, geographers, conservationists, and lovers of the great outdoors.

Also in attendance will be fellow team member Vahagn Vardumyan, Transcaucasian Trail Association founder Paul Stephens, and other TCT representatives, who will be available to answer your questions. The lecture will be followed by an on-site pay bar.
