There Is No Quest at the Land of Oz

Last October, I drove into the mountains of North Carolina to visit the defunct Land of Oz theme park, which opens once a year for a fall festival. The park was a popular attraction through the 1970s, but a fire destroyed the Emerald City in 1976, and by 1980, it had closed. Its founder Grover Robbins originally envisioned the Land of Oz as an homage to the book The Wizard of Oz, but over time, it increasingly drew on the costumes and sets of the popular film.
