Two-thirds of Uruguay’s population lives in these areas. The other third lives inland in what Uruguayans call the Interior. People in the Interior go frequently to Montevideo for medical, educational, legal, and other practical reasons, but Montevideanos rarely travel inland for either necessity or leisure.
