All the houses in the Outer Banks have names. They’re the kind of affectionate, ocean-themed identifiers owners bestow on their property regardless of what body of water it sits by: Wave Breaker, Pelican Reef, Seas the Day. About a dozen years ago, my boyfriend John’s extended family fell for the idyllic, vulnerable stretch of Mirlo Beach.
