Qatar's storytelling tradition

In the Place of Snakes, on the grassless plains west of the Qatari capital, Doha, businessman Ali Al Jehani tucks his feet underneath him and directs his eldest son, Hamad, out to the paddocks behind the house. 'Before, we had nothing. Only talking,' Ali says to me, eyes twinkling above a salt-and-pepper beard.
