Outbounding Twitter Login Grant Access to Private DM's?

I've not logged in for a while but just saw this when I tried logging in via Twitter

This application will be able to:

  • Read Tweets from your timeline.
  • See who you follow, and follow new people.
  • Update your profile.
  • Post Tweets for you.
  • Access your direct messages.

I understand this is Twitter's login but to the best of my knowledge with their API you can grant access to some or all things.

Having access to a members Direct Messages (private messages) on Twitter, for me, is a big no no. A serious violation of ones privacy.

While I understand that Outbounding may not be aware of this and I'm not implying Outbounding is trying to gain access to users private twitter messages I cannot allow such access. It simply violates my own privacy and anyone I DM with who has no say on this.

As such I would ask for clarification from Outbounding on why this has happened? What/if anything is being done about it? And what are the alternatives should one not want to login via twitter? Does creating an email login not associate itself with a the same users Twitter Login?

Looking forward to your reply

Dave

(EDIT) I tried to make an email / password login instead of a twitter login but there does not seem to be an option to do this when you are already logged in.
