In Managua’s Los Angeles district, the labyrinthine Mercado Oriental sees more than 80,000 customers meander through its pathways daily. One can buy everything in the Oriental, from a pound of rice to the service of a prostitute to a pet iguana. Sources report that the market generates $100 million a month, but it is also one of Nicaragua’s most dangerous places.
