Is voluntourism a form of poverty porn?

Poverty porn. It’s the dirty part of aid and humanitarianism proliferating the exploitation of those in the developing world. We see it everywhere, images of starved children and people living in poverty. The graphic depiction of what most Westerners imagine to be Africa – in squalor and poverty – is what drives donations in aid organisations.
