Happiness by the Gallon

In 1994, I spent a couple weeks in the slums of Juarez, Mexico helping build a shelter for the many orphans in the city. We mixed concrete by hand and laid bricks from sun up to sun down. We slept in a tarantula-infested, grassless field without plumbing or sewage.I’m proud of the work we did down there, but this is not a self-congratulatory story.
