Culture, in whatever form, may be anchoring and reassuring, providing a safe haven for feeding and guidelines for self-awareness. When I first started trying to have my film made, the boundaries of "African Culture and Traditions" seemed to imply that if a black film wasn't wildly funny, a historical epic tragedy, or a street drama, it wouldn't find an audience.
