Bridge to nowhere: exploring two sides of the river Ibar, Mitrovica
Ethnically-divided Mitrovica is the largest city in northern Kosovo. All that separates the 40,000 Serbians in the north from the 80,000 Albanians in the south is the Ibar, a river that cuts gently through the center of town. The Serb-dominated north became a separate municipality in 2013, following the North Kosovo Crisis in which hundreds of citizens and police were wounded and several died — Mitrovica is no stranger to violence.
