Basin and Range - What, Where, and Why: A Slideshow

Basin and Range National Monument is vast -- about 700,000 acres. Stretching some 70 miles north-south and 45 miles east-west, the area includes six mountain ranges with peaks climbing to almost 9,000 feet and numerous inter-mountain valleys (basins). The area also borders on four wilderness areas and U.S. Forest Service lands. Driving from south to north requires traversing about 90 miles of moderate to good dirt roads.
