Among the Ruins of the Gods
There’s a road and it’s almost 2,900 miles long, stretching all the way from the Atlantic shores of New Jersey to the haze of downtown San Francisco. Although these days they call it the Interstate 80, this was once the Lincoln Highway; the first road to cross the contiguous United States, forefather of the entire interstate highway network and, by extension, inspiration for every hopeless tale ever told in the entire canon of American road culture.
