No traveller worth their salt skips Chiang Mai on a trip to Thailand. The ‘New City’, as its name translates, is in fact now very, very old (only the four crumbling corners of the old city wall remain) and is a satisfyingly laid-back spot to indulge in a little culture, cuisine and bargain-hunting.
