1959 Cuba in revolution: photographer Burt Glinn captures a country's defining moment
On December 31, 1958, photojournalist Burt Glinn was at a New Year's Eve party on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, where all the talk was about the impending fall of Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. The idea that Batista's regime might fall at any second spurred the young Glinn, then an independent photographer, into action.
