Enclosed trailers are not standard on all 18-wheelers. Some semis have an open flatbed, which necessitates the driver securely securing the cargo. If the driver was careless in tying down the load, unsecured debris could cause accidents that end in injuries or even death. Raw materials, industrial tools, car parts, and other items are examples of regular unsecured cargo.
