Daniel Turner BSc (Hons) CBiol MSB

A Chartered Environmental Biologist, Daniel is Programmes Manager responsible tourism policy at the Born Free Foundation, the international wildlife NGO. He is also the Chair of the Captivity Working Group for the World Cetacean Alliance; founder and coordinator of the European animal protection coalition, ENDCAP, and policy officer for Dolphinaria-Free Europe. With a background in field conservation, for the last 15 years, Daniel has worked to improve public awareness of, and improve standards in, animal welfare protection across the world. Since 2004, Daniel has worked with the travel industry providing guidance, education and training to mainstream and specialist tour operators. This has included the development of the Travelife Animal Attractions Handbook (2008); a training scheme for H&S auditors and in 2013, Daniel co-authored the Global Welfare Guidance for Animals in Tourism, which includes a manual dedicated to improving the welfare of captive cetaceans in tourism, now adopted by ABTA and the British and the Dutch travel industry. In 2014, he helped establish Global Spirit, a responsible tourism advisory service that specialises in animal welfare and protection services. Working on behalf of numerous national and international organisations and coalitions, and often in collaboration with governments and the travel industry, Daniel has both significant knowledge and experience improving the welfare and protection of captive wild animals throughout the world.  Email: daniel@bornfree.org.uk
