What are some of your opinions?
I am heartened by the number of travel writers that are entering the debate about the downsides of travel. Spencer mentions questioning many locals about the changes resulting from the introduction of tourism. The quotes in Spencer's article come from people who have gained employment as a result of the tourist influx. It would have been good to hear from people not employed in the tourism related activities on how the wealth and improved infrastructure has benefited them and perhaps some of the less positive aspects.
Personally, I found the David Ewing article more satisfying, which is probably best elucidated by the authors' choice of quotes for their respective articles.
